About the Founder

Building Futures, One Adolescent at a Time

Mercy Olayemi Olabiyi, M.Ed., is a counselor educator, mental health advocate, and Ph.D. student at the University of Kentucky. As the founder of OMA Foundation, she leads efforts to equip adolescents with critical knowledge in mental health, sex education, and life skills. Mercy’s passion is rooted in both lived experience and a strong academic foundation, having earned her M.Ed. in Counseling Psychology from the University of Ibadan and her B.Ed. in Counselor Education from the University of Ilorin. Her doctoral research centers on adolescents with disabilities, mental health disparities, and substance use prevention, these issues directly inform the Foundation’s mission and approach.

Mercy O.A

Founder

Mercy began her professional journey as a secondary school teacher before transitioning into counseling and advocacy. She has served as a mental health counselor and currently contributes to counselor education as a teaching assistant and researcher at the University of Kentucky. Her commitment to youth empowerment extends beyond academics; she has volunteered with Talk Mental Health, where she facilitated awareness programs that reduce stigma and promote wellness among adolescents. Notably, she co-organized a large-scale career training workshop, reaching over 100 secondary school students with hands-on vocational skill training and digital literacy. This initiative underscored her belief that education must go beyond the classroom to equip youth with tools for real-world success.

This foundation is more than an organization — it’s a movement to build, uplift, and equip adolescents with skills that go beyond the classroom.

Through OMA Foundation, Mercy channels her research, professional experiences, and community work into a unified vision: to build a generation of informed, resilient, and purpose-driven young people. She is deeply committed to advancing the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), especially those related to quality education, health, and gender equality. As an educator, mentor, and changemaker, she continues to challenge barriers, champion awareness, and ensure that no adolescent is left behind. OMA Foundation is not just an extension of her academic journey—it’s a reflection of her calling to transform lives and communities through knowledge, compassion, and action.
